Oklahoma Teacher of the Year to be announced Tuesday


OKLAHOMA CITY (Sept. 13, 2018) – State Superintendent of Public Instruction Joy Hofmeister will announce the 2019 Oklahoma Teacher of the Year at a ceremony at State Fair Park in Oklahoma City on Tuesday, Sept. 18. The honored teacher will succeed 2018 Oklahoma Teacher of the Year Donna Gradel and become the state’s ambassador of teaching after Donna's term expires June 30, 2019.

The 12 finalists for 2019 Oklahoma Teacher of the Year were announced July 12. All finalists are teachers of the year for their districts and were selected after their application packets were reviewed by a panel that included educators, members of the business community, legislators and nonprofit partners. A separate panel selected the Oklahoma Teacher of the Year after a day of extensive interviews with the candidates.

Members of the media wishing to attend must obtain a State Fair media pass to gain free entry.
